Email, Text, and Push Notifications

Choose which emails, texts, and push notifications you get, turn on push for your phone or computer, and find out why an email didn't arrive.

The Notifications tab is where you choose how Communitrak reaches you: by email, by text, or with a push notification on your phone or computer. This article also explains which emails always send, and the common reasons an email doesn't arrive.

Who can do this

Everyone with a Communitrak account can review and change their own notification settings. Each member controls their own preferences, so a Community Leader cannot turn notifications on or off on someone else's behalf. Some options may be unavailable or appear differently depending on your level of account access.

Open your notification settings

  1. Log in to Communitrak at https://app.communitrak.com.

  2. In the main navigation menu, expand My Account and click Notifications.

You can also click your name or avatar in the top-right corner, choose My Account, and open the Notifications tab.

Each row is one kind of notification, with a switch for each way it can reach you: Text, Email, and Push. Changes save as soon as you flip a switch. There is no separate save button.

Note: Your preferences belong to your membership, not to your login. If you belong to more than one community, or to more than one household, each has its own settings. Switch to the community you want to change first. The one exception is Updates from Communitrak, which is a single setting for all your communities.

What you can turn on and off

Sections for modules your community doesn't use are hidden. Everything is on by default unless noted.

  • Messages: New messages from Members, and New messages from Leaders.

  • Bulletin Board: New posts from Members, New posts from Leaders, and Comments on posts you've shared.

  • Community Alerts: Alerts from your community, by text and email. Alerts always arrive as a push notification, so that switch is on and can't be changed.

  • Calendar: Changes to events you're attending.

  • Requests & Violations: Updates on Requests you're watching, and Updates on Violations you're watching.

  • Financial: New Charges and Payment Confirmations. Text messages for new charges are off by default, and they only go to a verified mobile number.

  • From Communitrak: Updates from Communitrak, which is product news and tips from the Communitrak team. The unsubscribe link in those emails turns this same switch off.

Community Leaders also see a Leadership Notifications section. See Notifications for Community Leaders.

Turn on push notifications

The Push Notifications card at the top of the tab is about the device you're using right now. Push is turned on one device at a time, so repeat this on your phone and your computer if you want both.

  1. Click Turn on notifications.

  2. Allow notifications when your browser or phone asks.

  3. Click Send a test to make sure one arrives. If it doesn't, the card lists what to check on your device.

The status in the corner of the card reads On, Off, Blocked, or Needs app:

  • Blocked means you told the browser not to allow notifications. The card explains where to change that on your device. Reload the page afterward.

  • Needs app appears on iPhone and iPad, where push only works in the Communitrak app added to your Home Screen. See Install Communitrak on iOS (iPhone & iPad).

Click Turn off to stop push on that device. The Push switches in each row decide which kinds of notifications are sent to the devices you've turned on.

The three kinds of email

Communitrak's emails follow different rules depending on what they're about. Knowing which kind you're dealing with answers most questions about why an email did or did not arrive.

  • Account emails cover your invitation, password resets and changes, email changes, verification codes, and two-factor and backup code messages. There is no setting that turns these off, because without them you could not get into your account.

  • Notices cover things you're responsible for or need to act on: charges, payment confirmations, fines, violations, request updates, architectural review deadlines, reservation confirmations and cancellations, and community alerts. These reach you even before you've finished setting up your account, so you're never unaware of something you owe or a deadline you need to meet. Several of them have their own switch on the Notifications tab, such as New Charges, Payment Confirmations, and Community Alerts.

  • Community activity covers bulletin board posts, messages, comments, and changes to events you're attending.

Why you might not receive an email

  • Nobody has invited you yet. If your board has added the roster but has not sent invitations, you will not hear from Communitrak until they do. Boards often import their member list well before they are ready to announce the community.

  • Your community has not launched. While a community is still being set up, only account emails go out to its members.

  • You turned it off. Check the Notifications tab. This applies to community activity and to the notices that have a switch, but never to account emails.

  • Your address has been bouncing. If emails to your address have bounced more than once and none has been delivered since the last bounce, sending stops entirely, account emails included. A dead address would not receive those either, and continuing to try damages delivery for everyone else in your community.

  • You reported an earlier email as spam. Community activity and notices stop. Account emails keep coming, so a password reset you ask for still reaches you and you are never locked out of your own account.

  • You have left the community. Community activity stops when your membership ends. Notices continue, because leaving does not settle a balance or close a violation.

If your email address is not verified

While your email address is unverified, notices and community activity still reach you, but without the details. You're told that something needs your attention and asked to sign in, rather than having the specifics sent to an address nobody has confirmed. Verifying it restores the full emails. See Managing Your Account.

If you have not finished setting up your account

Members who have been invited but have not yet created a password still receive notices in full, so a charge or a violation never goes unseen. For community activity, Communitrak sends a short message letting you know there is something waiting, at most once a day, rather than sending the content itself to an account that cannot open it.

Posts and messages sent while you were setting up are waiting for you in the app once you finish.

Things to know

  • Text, email, and push preferences are separate. Turning off charge emails does not turn off charge texts, and the reverse is also true.

  • In-app notifications, including the bell at the top of the app, appear no matter how these switches are set. The switches only control email, text, and push.

  • If you are not receiving email you expect and your settings look correct, check your spam folder before contacting support. Adding [email protected] to your contacts helps.
