Your community website comes with an address on sites.communitrak.com. If your association already owns a domain, you can point it at the site instead, so residents visit www.yourhoa.com and land on your Communitrak website.
This requires the Update Community Website permission. You will also need access to the DNS settings for your domain, which is usually at the registrar you bought it from, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, or Cloudflare. If someone else in your association manages the domain, they'll need to make the DNS change.
You need to already own the domain. Communitrak does not sell or register domains.
Have your registrar sign-in ready, or the contact details of whoever does.
In the main navigation menu, expand Community and click Website.
Stay on the Publishing category and find the Custom Domain card.
Type your domain into the box. For example, yourhoa.com.
Click Request Domain.
The card now shows your domain as pending DNS verification, along with the exact records to add.
The card shows the records Communitrak needs. Copy the values from your own screen rather than from this article. They come from Vercel, which hosts the sites, and can change over time.
How many records you'll add depends on the shape of your domain.
Your site is served at www.yourhoa.com, and the bare domain redirects there. This is deliberate: most registrars cannot put a CNAME on a bare domain, so www is the address that works everywhere. You'll add two records.
First, the CNAME:
Type: CNAME
Name: the value shown on the card, which will be www
Value: the target shown on the card. Use the copy button beside it to avoid typos.
Then the A record, which is what sends the bare domain to the www address:
Type: A
Name: @
Value: the address shown on the card.
Some registrars won't allow an A record on a bare domain. If yours won't, set up a redirect instead, often called domain forwarding, pointing at the target the card names.
A subdomain is served exactly as you entered it, with no www added and no bare domain involved. You'll add only the CNAME record, and the card shows only that one.
Once the records are saved at your registrar, return to Communitrak and click Verify Domain. Communitrak checks DNS and, if it finds the record, marks the domain live with a link to visit it.
If the check fails, you'll see a message that the CNAME record was not detected. That usually means DNS hasn't caught up yet rather than that anything is wrong.
To abandon the request and start over with a different domain, click Cancel Request.
On a live domain, click Remove Domain and confirm. The domain is disconnected and visitors can no longer reach your site at that address, though your sites.communitrak.com address keeps working. You can request a new domain afterward.
Verification keeps failing. Check that the record type is CNAME and not A or TXT, and that the Name field matches the card exactly. Many registrars append your domain automatically, so entering "www.yourhoa.com" as the name can silently create www.yourhoa.com.yourhoa.com. Entering just "www" is usually correct.
The site loads without https. The security certificate is issued after verification succeeds rather than before, so give it a little time once the domain goes live.
The www address works but the bare domain doesn't. Those are two separate records. The bare domain needs the A record, or a registrar redirect, on top of the CNAME.
You expected the site at the bare domain, not www. That is how it is meant to work. A regular domain is always served at www, with the bare domain redirecting into it.
Your domain currently points at an old website. Changing these records moves the domain to Communitrak. If the old site is still in use, plan the switch, since visitors will follow the domain to whichever site it points at.
A custom domain doesn't publish the site by itself. The website still has to be set to Published on the same page for anyone to see it.
Keep the domain registered and renewed at your registrar. If the registration lapses, the address stops working no matter what Communitrak has configured.
Your sites.communitrak.com address continues to work alongside the custom domain.
